Woman’s Heart Melts as Blind Kitten’s Meows Guide Her at Shelter, Leading to an Unbreakable Bond

Woman Hears Blind Kitten Meowing to Her at Shelter and Can't Leave Him There

The distressed cries of a blind kitten caught the attention of a compassionate woman while she was at the shelter. She knew she couldn’t walk away and had to rescue him.

Katie Buckman, a kitten rescuer from Sanford, North Carolina, visited a local shelter to pick up a few kittens one day when she heard a loud cry coming from a kennel. Curious, she followed the sound and found a small blind kitten calling out for her attention.
The little guy had been discovered as a stray and brought to the shelter. Despite originally going in for just two kittens, Katie couldn’t bear to leave him behind, all alone and in distress.
“He was just screaming in that cage, I couldn’t leave him there,” Katie shared with Love Meow. So, she gathered up all three kittens and hurried off to the vet for a check-up.

Katie found a tired and scared little creature who was mostly interested in food. She decided to bring him home, where she wrapped him in a cozy blanket with some extra warmth and a toy that mimicked a heartbeat. Her dog, Burt, also stepped in to provide some comfort and stayed by the little one’s side throughout the ordeal.

Katie Buckman noticed a remarkable change in the kitten the following day. The once reserved animal began playing with toys and even licking her face. Despite being blind due to microphthalmia, a condition where the eyes are abnormally small, the kitten displays a carefree and affectionate demeanor.

When Katie Buckman came across a blind kitten in need of special care, she knew she had to find him a home where he would be taken care of properly. She contacted the Odd Cat Sanctuary in Salem, Massachusetts, a place known for helping cats with unique needs. Tara Kay, the founder of the sanctuary, gladly took Melvin in and gave him a new home. Melvin, the blind kitten, now had a place where he could thrive and receive the love and care he truly deserved.

According to Katie Buckman, her cat Melvin is an absolute joy to have around. He enjoys eating, playing, and immediately starts purring as soon as he’s picked up. Despite his initial underweight condition at the shelter, Melvin has thrived in their care and now proudly sports a cute little belly.
