Whiskers and Wags: An Uplifting Story of Hope and Happiness

A little feline discovered on a rural farm quickly captured the hearts of those around her with her determination to embrace a joyful existence.

merida, a cute tabby kitten, was discovered at a farm when she was just 2.5 months old and in serious need of assistance. Jillian, the compassionate founder of FosterBabyCats located in Columbus, Ohio, quickly came to her aid.

The poor kitten had suffered a spinal injury (potentially from being accidentally stepped on by a large farm animal) and was unable to move her injured hind legs. Jillian wasted no time in taking her to a nearby specialist and emergency veterinary hospital, where they sadly informed her that there was little hope for merida’s recovery.

Despite the grim prognosis, Jillian was determined to give the tabby kitten a shot at survival.

After being discovered on a farm with her back legs paralyzed, little merida found a guardian angel in the form of Dr. Jackie Holdsworth, a surgeon and neonatal specialist. Jillian, who was caring for merida, was overwhelmed by the support and supplies sent by Dr. Holdsworth to ensure merida’s well-being. Named after the courageous character from Brave, merida was resolute in living her life to the fullest as a cheerful paraplegic feline.

merida transformed into a spirited, playful, and determined cat once she recovered her health. She wasted no time in zipping around, playfully chasing after the larger resident cats. Unfazed by her physical limitations, merida aimed to prove herself as the fiercest feline around. During her first venture into “cat mode,” she showcased her unwavering perseverance and fighting spirit despite having only two fully working legs.

merida began zipping around the house with her fellow feline pals at FosterBabyCats. After undergoing various treatments and therapy, she was eventually given a set of wheels to assist with her mobility. With her new wheels, merida became a whirlwind of energy, racing around the house with her furry companions. Her latest obsession was playing fetch, and she quickly mastered the art of retrieving toys like a professional.

After being equipped with a set of wheels, she quickly became the queen of speed at FosterBabyCats. According to Jillian, the wheels are a perfect match for merida because they allow her to maintain all her usual feline activities without any hindrance. Rolling over, stretching, laying down, climbing, and even sneaking up on other cats – nothing slows her down.

Jillian appreciates every small victory, like merida’s toe wiggles, as a significant achievement. She believes that merida’s vibrant personality is what helped her thrive during the first 2.5 months of her life without any assistance.

Wearing pants to shield her backside as she darts around the house, FosterBabyCats is a true inspiration.
